The Love Your Body Week (LYBW) Handbook
The LYBW Handbook is based on eating disorder prevention principles found in the award winning children’s book Full Mouse, Empty Mouse by Dina Zeckhausen, PhD (Magination Press, 2007).
“How rare and exciting to find a book that is wonderful children's literature while conveying a powerful message about eating disorders. Full Mouse, Empty Mouse should be required reading in every elementary school.” —Jean Kilbourne, Author, Can't Buy My Love: How Advertising Changes the Way We Think and Feel
The handbook provides guidelines for parents and teachers to implement a fun and engaging eating disorder prevention and healthy lifestyle program for grade school children. Since the National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has decided to tackle the issue of child obesity in schools, the LYBW program is an appropriate and effective way to address the mental health components of food, weight, body image, and weight-based teasing and bullying.
“This delightful book gently encourages children to embrace and express their true feelings rather than stuff or restrict them with disordered eating. Through lyrical storytelling and beautiful artwork it teaches some very complex concepts in a simple, playful manner that is perfect for young children.”
—Anita Johnston, PhD, Author, Eating in the Light of the Moon
